Daily Devotional Feb 20th 2021: A Dark Winter? Not so Fast!

Darkness is the absence of light. Resident Biden repeatedly announced a "Dark Winter" that we'd face. Projection, Joseph? You would have us follow you to walk in the same darkness you have chosen for yourself and for this country. But not so fast, man of gloom, twilight, night, obscurity, isolation, dirt, untidiness, dullness, secrecy, seclusion, and evil realm; all synonyms of darkness. The LORD knows your heart, Jospeh, and causes you to reveal your innermost, dark intentions. Thanks to God, anyone with godly discernment knows who you are and what you represent. It's certainly not the Americans, not even the ones who cast a vote or two for you.    

Pastor David Lankford, in this week's sermons Preparing for the Coming Darkness Pt I and II, pointed out that there are different biblical definitions of darkness.

We have the darkness of night, the frequency per se, and we have literal darkness. The first is the opposite of light, but the second is a thick darkness that can be felt; it is so heavy, so tangible that people are terrorized, even paralyzed for fear. The Hebrew word for it is עֲרָפֶל (ârā-pêl). The Greek word for it is σκότος (skotos). It is so dark that the people of Egypt could not move in their beds for three days:

Exodus 10:21 - 10:23
21 And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness [which] may be felt.
22 And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days:
23 They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.

Both darknesses at a higher level are the opposite of God, who is (the) Light, Life, and Truth. God wants us to walk the path he shines His light on. 

John 8:12
“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

He who follows Jesus shall not walk in darkness. "Shall" is the strongest word in English of a declaration. Praise God! 

Psalms 119:105
“NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” 

Note, the LORD uses darkness for good, that we may rest at night, and sleep, to restore ourselves. But even at night, He gave us the Light to orient ourselves on. What a divinely brilliant concept!

Genesis 1:16
“And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.” 

Isaiah 30:26
“Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day that the LORD bindeth up the breach of his people, and healeth the stroke of their wound.” 

No, Joseph, we won't follow your dark ways, nor shall we unify with the darkness you represent. I imagine the hellfire as scorching, black flames, void of any life-giving light, because God IS Light. When we keep our eyes on the LORD, when we stay in His Word daily, darkness must give way to light and evil must submit. Thus, evil is defeated. Wow, what confidence we, as true believers, can have in God and His Word! We are cosntantly drawn to the Light and shun all dark ways so that we may not succumb to its snares.

2 Corinthians 6:14
“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?” 

And while we, the children of Light, are despised by the world, slandered, canceled and persecuted, we can rejoice that this is so, because it confirms that we are on the right path. For me, it's God's Way or no way. How about you?

John 1:4 - 1:5
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

How to Pray

LORD, glory and praise be to You now and for all eternity!
LORD, Your are my life, my Light, and my Salvation. 
LORD, without You, I'd perish in darkness.
LORD, without You, there would be no hope.
LORD, help me to walk in Your statues,
LORD, to follow the light You shine on my path,
LORD, that we may not fall victim to the snares the enemy has set,
LORD, but wisely consider our steps.
LORD, thank you for Your grace, waiting on us patiently, even when we transgress.
LORD, forgive us our sins, even those we are not conscious of, that You may bring them into our awareness, 

LORD, we bessech you then:

Luke 1:79
“To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”,

That the rulers of darkness, even Joseph Biden's masters and followers, turn from their darkness and follow the Light, so that they, too, may be saved.
